About Us Projects Partners & Sponsors Press Room

To all OTA Supporters:

On Thursday, December 10, the email account of Vice President Amanda Thompson fell victim to a cyber attack that resulted in fraudulent e-mails being sent from her account.  These emails were NOT sent by Amanda, but by a hacker who had gained access to her email.

There were several variations of emails that were sent out in this attack.
  • The first simply asked the reader to call her to help with a favor.
  • The second asked recipients to send money to her in the Philippines.

Neither of these emails were legitimate.  They were hoaxes indended to perpetrate fraud and financial theft.

The last legitimate email that was sent out from OTA was on Tuesday, December 8 that included a link to our newsletter, website and a donation page.  This email was sanctioned and sent from OTA, and was not involved in this attack.

If you receive an e-mail (whether from OTA or any other source) that appears to be suspicious, please delete it immediately. DO NOT RESPOND TO IT.   DO NOT CLICK ON ANY LINKS.  Links can contain malware, embed viruses on your computer, direct you to fraudulent phishing sites, among other nefarious things.

If you have any questions or concerns about an email you receive from OTA, please email us at Donations(at)OperationTroopAppreciation.org and we will respond as quickly as possible. Please know that we have received a significant number of inquiries, so it may take some time to get back to you.

If you would like to verify OTA’s track record, financial statements, and 501c3 status, you may find this information on many legitimate 3rd party charity trackers, such as Guide Star (guidestar.com)

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this attack has caused. Thank you for your patience and for your continued support.

Sincerely,

Kristen Holloway Querriera, Founder and CEO
Monica Orluk, President
Amanda Thompson, Vice President
